The two-piece pillow consists of a soft but sturdy outer cover made from brushed cotton canvas, and a cotton muslin insert filled with just the right amount of organic buckwheat hulls.
“We developed the BackButtress with the help of orthopedic experts and customers who have told us about their discomfort with sciatica, piriformis syndrome, arthritis, and other ailments that affect the spine, dorsal region, and coccyx,” says Howda Designz owner Leslie Novak. “The feedback we received helped us tweak the dimensions of the pillow — making it narrower and wider. We also found that reducing the amount of buckwheat hull filling made the pillow more pliable, which allows it to mold better to the part of the body in need of support.”
For the outer cover, Novak chose a brushed cotton canvas that is durable but has a soft, smooth surface. The cover can be removed from the organic buckwheat insert and washed by hand or machine and touched with an iron (although the fabric naturally sheds creases).
